It arises some hours after contact with the responsible material, and settles down over some days providing the skin is no longer in contact with it. It is an itchy skin condition caused by an allergic reaction to material in contact with the skin.

The reaction usually appears within 48 hours after the initial exposure to the allergen. this disease is not caused by "irritants" like acid, alkali, solvent, strong soap or detergent. The allergen can be a substance in a product that you have used for many years; it does not have to be a new product. Allergic contact dermatitis occurs more commonly in adults.
