Applying Foundation

Foundation should be considered as a skin improver. There are two keys to success, the first is to pick the right formulation, and the second is to choose the perfect shade for your skin. To choose a colour apply little on your cheek or inside of your wrist. For oily skin use non-greasy cake foundation and on a combination skin use a foundation for normal skin or a shade darker than it. Apply the foundation cobbering all the areas of face and neck. When applying foundation use a cosmetic sponge - using your fingertips may result in an uneven, greasy finish. If your foundation looks heavy or blotchy - regardless of whether it was applied with a finger or a sponge - run a make-up sponge across the skin to soak up any excess product. While applying liquid foundation, it is better to put small points of foundation at different parts of your face such as forehead, nose tip, chin and cheek bones and then blend a little at a time on the face to give a more finished look.

Facial make-up or foundations are pigmented products intended for application on the face and the neck. It should go on smoothly and evenly without adding shine or gloss. Foundation is often formulated with UV protectants and moisturizers. The wrong colored skin foundations will make your color base pigments look either unwell or dirty. Contrary to what many women think, skin foundations are good for your skin as a face cream and can give your face a lift as an anti-aging product. Good brands of skin foundations add protection especially with the use of your daily moisturizer. With skin foundations you will have to use a cream, powder or liquid foundation. This will depend on your skin type, color pigment, and the how much coverage you need. If your skin seems to absorb skin foundations quickly that might be because it is dry, so a silk cream foundation might be best. Powder foundations are effective in controlling oil build-up on greasier skins. When you consider that you wear skin foundations all day and everyday, products from the Chanel, Bare Escentuals, and Max Factor cosmetic line make sense to spend your money on. Skin foundation gives the rest of your makeup something to adhere to providing you with a natural, youthful appearance.

Applying Foundation

  • A simple formula to remember for visually contouring the face with foundation is that light shades highlight and darker shades minimize.
  • Start by dotting on the forehead and blend well with a damp sponge on fingers before moving on.
  • Use a cosmetic sponge to apply most types of foundation - using your fingertips can result in an uneven, greasy finish.
  • Apply foundation in dots, then blend each one with your sponge.
  • Keep two shades of foundation on hand. One will be suitable for winter, and the other for summer skin. Most of the year, they will match perfectly if mixed together.
  • To give the skin a dewy finish, moisten a gauze pad or wash cloth in astringent and gently pat your already made up face. The astringent (witch hazel is perfect) will remove the matte look of makeup, while leaving the skin radiant.
  • After your make-up application, take apart a tissue, and pat over your face. It blends the makeup together while softening the look.
  • Choose a foundation shade between the lightest and darkest areas to even out the complexion.
  • While applying liquid foundation, it is better to put small points of foundation at different parts of your face such as forehead, nose tip, chin and cheek bones and then blend a little at a time on the face to give a more finished look.
